Our first meeting for the 2009-2010 academic year will take place right after school at 2:40 on Wednesday, September 2nd in room A119!
If you’re a standing member, plan to attend to discuss upcoming events as homecoming and various other news!
For prospective members: we will be discussing how to become a member, freshmen elections, and plans and goals for Student Council.
Student Council Members,
As the school opened this past Monday to the staff, faculty members are burdened by the need to establish themselves in their classrooms for the beginning of school. A large portion of the faculty has been unable to work in their new rooms, and the present time constraints pose a problem.
I would like to ask all student council members to assist teachers in this effort. On Friday, August 21st, students are able to join teachers at school. It is important that I make especial emphasis that construction is still openly taking place. With potential safety and liability issues, this means that students who are helping must remain with the teacher they are working with at all times. The construction company has already made a great concession in allowing us to do this, so we cannot tolerate any problems created by a lack of adherence to this request. By nobody’s request may you leave the proximity of a teacher!
I do not want to come across as harsh, but there have already been too many problems with communication to students on campus.
If you would like to help out at school on Friday, I would like you to work with your choice of teachers. That said, if you are able to show up, please email me the three (3) teachers who you would most like to work with. If necessary, we may need to assign you to another teacher other than one of these three. Along with this information, please include your name, cell phone number, and the timeframe in which you are available to work (i.e. Eric Chin, 281.***.****, 8AM-3PM, Mrs. Haddox, Mrs. Wong, Mrs. Stelly). I may not be able to reply to your request, but please plan to arrive at the time you noted.
We will be offering triple hours for this, as we are working on such short notice. For now, plan to meet in the main entrance on Grant Road, from where we will direct you to a place to meet the teacher you will be working with.
As always, I appreciate your willingness to participate in such an project. I hope that you are able to join us at Cy-Creek!
Eric Chin
School’s just about here! Recently, Student Council’s been given a lot of work to do, and you can help!
For any of the following, we’re offering extra points (double or triple!), so these would be great ways to earn some of your hours.
- Mini-Cougar Express: On August 18, 19, 20, and 21, (Tuesday through Friday), we will need several students to join us at Cy-Creek (you can see the renovated parts of the building!) to help pass out textbooks according to each student’s schedule. All workers will need to arrive at school at about 12:30 in the old Silvie Room (H104) and plan to say until 3:30. You may work on any day, but remember that we’re passing out freshman textbooks on Tuesday, sophomore textbooks on Wednesday, senior textbooks on Thursday, and junior textbooks on Friday.
- Label postcards: We are tentatively planning to put sticker-labels onto post cards to mail to the incoming freshman. Date and time to be announced. UPDATE: We are currently planning to label the post cards in the morning of Monday, August 17th at 10:30AM. Specific location to be announced.

Forgive the late update!
As the year comes to a close, we will have several opportunities for points. And remember, all points you earn this six weeks carry over to the first six weeks of next school year, so think about the requirements! Soon, there will be ample opportunity to earn points:
- Textbook check-in: Scheduled for May 19-22 after school in the library pit. Be sure to sign in when you show up, and note that you’re from Student Council! The librarians will keep track of your points for us. For each shift (one afternoon), you can earn 2 points.
- Pack up the library: this Saturday, May 16th, the library will be open from 8AM-3PM for students to help the librarians pack the books in the library. You will earn triple the points for each hour you work! So if you work for one hour, you will earn 3 points! Sign in with the librarian!
- Help A Teacher Move: we are working with NHS to help teachers move due to construction. Sign up in Mrs. Haddox’s room, A110, and when a teacher needs help, we will let you know. If you know of a teacher who is moving want to request that specific teacher, note that when you sign up. Unfortunately, we can’t guarantee that we will be able to assign you to the teacher of your choice. Points are dependant on the time you work.
- Constitution Agreement: Check out the previous post for information about the new Student Council Constitution. Use the form to tell us whether you agree or disagree to it. If you have a question or concern, let us know.
Executive Officer Candidates we will have information ready for you by Friday. If we don’t deliver it to you, stop by Mrs. Haddox’s room, A110, after school to pick it up. Thank you for enduring the application process!
You may now read the new Student Council Constitution. Agreement and ratification will take place at the Wednesday, May 13th meeting using the following form. Each member must complete the following form, noting his/her feelings of the constitution. Any concerns should be adressed during the meeting prior to ratification.
…that we have rescheduled the mandatory May 6th meeting to Wednesday, May 13th. It will be held in TTC immediately after school. Remember that we plan on ratifying the new constitution and voting for your 2009-2010 executive officers!
